TINIDAZOLE


Tinidazole is a drug having antimicrobial action and helps to fight infections in body. It is also used for treating certain intestinal infections, liver infections and sexually transmitted diseases.

Its metabolism is slower than metronidazole but duration of action is longer, thus it is more suited for once daily therapy.

Working
Tinidazole belongs to the class of antibiotics called the azoles. It works by entering the cell and binding to genetic material (DNA). This prevents the formation of further genetic material and therefore stops the bacteria from reproducing.

Dosage
The drug should be taken exactly as directed by the doctor. It should generally be taken with food to avoid upset stomach.

Contra- Indications: 1st trimester of pregnancy. Blood dyscrasias. Lactation, neurological disorder

Side Effects
The drug has certain side effects, that can affect individuals in different ways. The following are some of the side effects, that are often associated with the drug:

  • Furred tongue
  • G.I discomfort
  • Dark urine
