Description
Streptokinase has no effect on plasminogen. It acts upon by binding with
plasminogen to form a 1:1 composite & turns in a participating enzyme
plasmin. It is non-enzyme macromolecule acquired by certain strains of beta
hemolytic Streptococci. It resolve clot mainly by converting the intrinsic
plasminogen present in the fibrin clot to its active agent form
plasmin.Streptokinase is called a thrombolytic agent and acts best when it
is given soon after the approach of heart attack symptoms. Streptokinase can
also break up blood clots that form in intravenous tubes . Generic
streptokinase is not yet available.
Uses
- Streptokinase is used to break up blood clots in the blood vessels of
leg veins, lungs and around the heart.
- Streptokinase injection can dissolve blood clots that form in the
heart, blood vessels, or lungs after a heart attack, or some other
disease process.
- Used for intestinal disorder (short bowel syndrome)
- It is also used to treat people who are having heart problems.
Dosage
- The medicine will be given intravenously through a tube that goes in
one of your blood veins.
- This medicine is very strong. Before taking it, one should be very
clear as to why he is getting it and what are the risks and benefits of
this treatment. It is important for you to follow your doctors orders
strictly.
- One will get this medicine in a hospital, so the results of his
treatment can be watched closely.

Common side effects

- Bloody vomit or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
- Nosebleeds or bleeding from any area

- Swelling in the face, lips, or mouth
Storage:
- Streptokinase should be stored in a cool dry area as directed.
