Description
Soframcyin is a powerful bactericidal antibiotic. It is used to treat
infections of the eye and is active against a wide variety of both
gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Such kind of bacterias are found
in eye infections. Soframycin contains the active ingredient framycetin
sulphate, which is a type of medicine known as aminoglycoside antibiotic,
used to treat infections caused by bacteria. Soframycin is available in two
forms:
- Soframycin Eye Drop which is bright, clear, odourless,
colourless, and an aqueous solution.
- Soframycin Eye Ointment which is uniform, smooth, clear to
white, greasy, translucent ointment.
Uses
Used for the treatment of
- Conjunctivitis
- Styes
- Corneal abrasions and burns
- Corneal ulcers
- Preventing infection in people having a foreign body removed from the
eye.
How to use ?
Use as per doctor's advise.
- Soframycin Eye Drop 1 or 2 drops three or four times daily, 1
or 2 drops in every 1 or 2 hours if the condition is acute. Use
preferably in day time.
- Soframycin Eye Ointment Two or three times in the eye daily,
or at bedtime if drops are used during the day.
Safety tips
- Should not be taken by mouth
- Should not wear contact lenses while using Soframycin eye drops.
- Do not touch the tip of the dropper to your eye or to any surface to
avoid contaminating the medicine.
- Even if the infection clears up, continue using the medicine till you
finish the course.
- Do not use Soframycin for longer than prescribed by your doctor.
- Do not use the ointment if you are allergic to one or any of its
ingredients such as neomycin (e.g., Mycifradin), paromomycin (e.g.,
Humatin), or kanamycin (e.g., Kantrex).
- Do not use for more than 30 days after opening.
- Consult your doctor if you have use the medicine during pregnancy or
breastfeeding..
