Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor drug. That is it is medicine or drug that inhibits specifically and dose proportionally the gastricH+, K+ ATPase enzyme which is responsible for acid secretion in the parietal cells of the stomach. The drug acts by blocking the production of acid by the stomach.

Dosage of Pantoprazole Tablets

> One tablet per day, either during or before breakfast.
Duodenal ulcer: 1 tablet for 2 weeks
Gastric ulcer: 1 tablet for 4 weeks
Gastro-oesophageal reflux: 1 tablet for 4 weeks

Contra- Indications: Hypersensitivity to any of the constituents

Use of Pantoprazole

The Pantoprazole medicine is used for short-term treatment gastric ulcer. It treats the erosion and ulceration of the esophagus produced by gastroesophageal reflux disease. The treatment takes 2 months time initially. If the problem continues, another 8 week course of treatment is given to the patient. The same medicine can be used as a maintenance therapy for long term use after initial response is attained.

Side Effects of Pantoprazole

  • Headache
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dizziness
  • Pruritis
