METOCLOPRAMIDE


Metoclopramide is a drug used for relieving nausea and vomiting; heartburn, stomach pain, and bloating. The drug is a potent dopamine receptor antagonist used for its antiemetic and prokinetic properties. It is also used for facilitating gastric emptying in patients with gastric stasis.

Brand Name: Reglan, Mexolon, Primperan

Iupac Name: 4-amino-5-chloro-N-(2-(diethylamino)ethyl)-2-methoxybenzamide

Dosage
The dose should be taken after consulting a doctor and also according to the age of patient and the severity of the individual case.

Contra- Indications: Hypersensitivity, Obstruction or perforation

Side Effects
The drug has certain side effects, that can affect individuals in different ways. The following are some of the side effects, that are often associated with the drug:
  • Restlessness
  • Drowsiness
  • Fatigue
  • Lassitude
The safety of the drug has not been established for use by pregnant women. The drug may also pass into the breast milk during lactation period.
