FEXOFENADINE


Fexofenadine is a specific selective and competitive histamine H1 receptor antagonist, with twice the affinity for H1 receptor than terfanadine. It blocks both early and late stages of allergy effectively.

The drug is used for relieving hay fever and allergy symptoms, such as sneezing and red, itchy, tearing eyes. It belongs to the class of antihistamines. It is available in both tablets and capsules form.

Iupac Name: 2-[4-[1-hydroxy-4-[4-(hydroxy-diphenyl- methyl)-1-piperidyl]butyl]phenyl]-2- methyl-propanoic acid

Working
The drug acts by blocking histamine, a substance in the human body responsible for causing allergic symptoms. It causes less drowsiness when compared to other antihistamines.

Dosage
Allergic Rhinitis: 120 mg once daily
Allergic Skin Conditions: 180 mg daily

Contra-Indications: Hypersensitivity
