Domperidone is an
antidopaminergic drug, that can either be used orally or
intravenously, for suppressing nausea and vomiting. The drug has
also been used for stimulating lactation.
Domperidone is a potent dopamine antagonist with antiemetic
properties. It is useful in treatment of nausea, vomiting and
dyspepsia. It increases lower oesophagal sphincter pressure, antral
and duodenal contractions, gastric emptying of liquids and semi
solids, and shortens the stationary phase for solids in the stomach.

Dosage
Adults: 20-40 mg , 3-4 times a day. In elderly commence at
10 mg
Children: 0.3 mg/ kg body weight, 3-4 times daily before
meals and at bed time.
Contra- Indications: Pregnancy
Side Effects
The drug has certain side effects, that can affect individuals in
different ways. The following are some of the side effects, that are
often associated with the drug:
- Serum prolactin level may increase resulting in galactorrhoea
in females & less frequently gynaecomastia in males.
