Domperidone is a well knownn
prescription drug
developed by Janssen Pharmaceutica. An antidopaminergic drug, this can be
taken orally, rectally or intravenously, mainly used for suppressing nausea
and vomiting and also for stimulating lactation.

Uses of Domperidone
- Domperidone is a medicine used to treat nausea, vomiting and
dyspepsia.
- The intake of this medicine increases the movements or contractions
of the stomach and bowel.
- Domperidone increases prolactin secretion indirectly. This is done by
interfering with the action of dopamine.Prolactin is the hormone which
stimulates the cells in the mother's breast to produce milk. For more

- It helps in gastric emptying of liquids and semi solids.
- The Motilium Domperidone tablets shorten the stationary phase for
solids in the stomach.
- This medicine is recommended as an anti-emetic in patients receiving
cytostatic and radiation therapy.
- It also helps in radiological examination of the upper
gastro-intestinal tract.
Dosage
Adults: 20-40 mg , 3-4 times a day. In elderly commence at 10 mg
Children: 0.3 mg/ kg body weight, 3-4 times daily before meals and
at bed time.
