and sedative properties. The drug is a prescription medicine and available
in the form of tablets. Cyproheptadine belongs to a class of drugs known as
antihistamines.

Uses of Periactin Cyproheptadine
- The drug is used to relieve the symptoms of various allergic

- Cyproheptadine relieves irritated, itchy, red, watery eyes.
- It also relieves sneezing, runny nose caused by allergies, air
irritants, and hay fever.
- It also increases the appetite and has been recommended in children
and poor eaters, to promote weight gain.
- It is an appetite stimulant, not a general tonic.

Working of Cyproheptadine
This antihistaminic and antiserotonergic
agent acts as a 5-HT2 receptor antagonist and also blocks calcium channels.

The drug may sometimes be used to combat SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction and
rarely as a prophylactic drug for migraine.
Dosage
Adults and Children (7 -14 yrs): 12 mg daily in 3 divided doses
Children ( 2-6yrs): Max. daily dose 8 mg
Take this medication by mouth, usually 2 to 3 times a day or as directed by
your doctor. You may take this drug with food to minimize stomach upset.
