Clotrimazole is an anti fungal medication used for treating fungal infections of both humans and animals such as vaginal yeast infections and ringworm. The drug is also commonly used for treating athlete's foot and jock itch. It can applied topically, taken orally or inserted in the vagina depending on the type of infection.


Brand name:Lotrimin, Mycelex

Iupac Name: 1-[(2-chlorophenyl)-diphenyl-methyl]imidazole]

Dosage:

100 mg tablet to be inserted into the vagina for 6 consecutive nights or 200 mg for three consecutive nights. Clotrimazole cream, solution, lotion can be applied gently to the affected and surrounding skin areas, generally twice daily in the morning and evening.


Contra- Indications: For vaginal infections, it should not be taken in the 1st trimester of Pregnancy.

Side Effects
The drug has certain side effects, that can affect individuals in different ways. The following are some of the side effects, that are often associated with the drug:
  • Burning sensation
  • Itching
  • Local mild irritation
  • Hypersensitivity
There is no evidence of risk to the developing baby during pregnancy or risk to lactating women.
