Description
Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine. This medication works by blocking
histamine ( a certain natural substance ) that your body makes during an
allergic reaction. By blocking acetylcholine (another natural substance)
made by your body, the medication helps dry up some body fluids to relieve
symptoms like running nose and watery eyes. Available in tablet and syrup
form.
Uses
The medicine is used to treat allergy, hay fever, the common cold, allergic
conjunctivitis, vasomotor rhinitis. The symptoms in which the medicine can
be used are
- Watery eyes
- Itchy eyes
- Itchy nose/throat/skin
- Rash
- Cough
- Sneezing
- Running nose
How to use ?
- Use as directed in the label or as prescribed by the doctor. Take the
tablet or liquid form by mouth with or without food. It can be taken
with milk or food if stomach upset occurs.
- Do not crush or chew. Swallow the whole.
- If you are using the liquid form, shake the bottle before use and use
a proper measuring spoon to take the right dose.
- Your dosage is based on your age and medical condition. Hence, do
not increase your dose.
- Take regularly to get the most benefit .
- Take it at the same time each day so that you donot miss a dose.
Safety tips
- Do not use during third trimester of pregnancy.
- Do not use during lactation.
- Contraindicated in breast-feeding mothers.
- Not recommended in children below 2 yr of age.
- Do not overdose. It may may cause hallucinations, convulsions, and
death.
- Use with caution in elderly persons, usually starting at the low end
of the dosage range because of the greater frequency of decreased renal,
or cardiac function.
- Use with caution in patients with cirrhosis or other liver disease.
- Avoid in patients with sleep apnea.

- Difficult urination
- Constipation
