CETIRIZINE HYDROCHLORIDE


Cetirizine hydrochloride is a popular drug used for treating allergies, hay fever, angioedema, and hives. It is a second-generation non sedating antihistamine with a potent anti-allergic action.

Brand Name: Zyrtec, Zirtek, Zynor, Reactine, Benaday, Humex

Chemical Description: -[2-[4-[(4-chlorophenyl)-phenyl-methyl]piperazin-1-yl]ethoxy]acetic acid

Working

The drug acts by blocking H1 histamine receptors. Since it does not cross blood brain barrier, so it does not cause sedation or interfere with mental alertness or memory function. The drug has a long duration of action.

Dosage
10 mg once daily

Contra- Indications: Pregnancy, lactation and children

Side Effects
