Description
Cefuroxime is an antibiotic belonging a class of drugs called
cephalosporins. It is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, which
came to the markets of USA in 1977. This medicine fights bacteria in the
body.
Available in tablets and liquid form.
Uses
Cefuroxime is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, like
- Gonorrhea
- Bronchitis
- Lyme disease
- Ear infection
- Throat infection
- Sinuses
- Urinary tract infection
- Skin infection
How to use?
- It should be taken by mouth, usually twice a day after every 12 hours
for 7-10 days.
- To treat gonorrhea, it should be taken as a single dose.
- To treat Lyme disease, it should be taken twice a day for 20 days.
- The tablet may be taken with or without food.
- The liquid must be taken with food.
- Take cefuroxime exactly as directed by your doctor or as in the
packet. Do not take more dose.
- Shake the liquid well before each use.
- The tablets should be swallowed whole and taken with a full glass of
water.
Safety tips
- Take cefuroxime till you finish the prescribed course. Stopping
cefuroxime too early may cause bacteria to become resistant to
antibiotics.
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to cefuroxime, penicillin, or
