Cefpodoxime proxetil is s an oral third generation semi-synthetic
cephalosporin and a beta-lactam antibiotic used to treat a variety of
bacterial infections. It is active against most Gram positive and Gram
negative bacteria. Clinical studies have shown the efficacy of cefpodoxime
in acute otitis media, sinusitis and tosillopharyngitis. In areas where
common respiratory pathogens show very less sensitivity to penicillins and
macrolides, cefpodoxime can be used as a therapy in respiratory tract
infections.
Uses
- It is used for treatment of infections of respiratory tract.
Respiratory tract infections are a common cause of childhood mortality
and morbidity. This medicine has excellent activity against common
pathogens causing respiratory tract infections
- It is used to treat urinary tract, skin and skin structures.
- It is used to treat pneumonia and acute bronchitis.
- For treatment of STDs caused by susceptible strains of specific
microorganisms, Cefpodoxime proxetil is used.
- It is used to treat acute otitis media, sinusitis and pharyngitis.
- It also helps in relieving pediatric typhoid fever though for this
clinical trials are limited.
